Ronnie Edwards Summer Cup final
Southwick S&SC (The Twitten) vs New Oak A
3rd September 2024
Venue: The Howard
What a fantastic night of darts from two teams packed with gladiators of the sport. As usual the treble and double games were called first, and the Twitten dominated from the first throw and built up a commanding lead of 4-0. Were the Oak going to be the Bridesmaids again after coming runners up in the Winter League?
After suffering from this early shock, the Oak regrouped and produced some fantastic darts. Lee G finding some excellent arrows to overcome the usually dependable (Captain) Jim L and then this was followed by Graham (Chopper) who, with uncharacteristic ‘doubles trouble’, let a youthful Micky M, sporting a new haircut, convert a high out finish. Next up was Dave F who stepped up to the Oche with conviction, in an exhilarating match narrowly beat Dave H.
Nerves in the Twitten camp were starting to appear, but in stepped the David E (forever young) to steady the ship for the Twitten against a determined Martin B; but by this time the writing was already on the wall and Tavis D managed to manoeuvre a win against John P (The legend). The game was now truly in the balance at 5-5 when Dave D, with nerves of steel, overcame a spirited Andy to deservingly win the Cup for the Oak.
Many thanks to the Howard for hosting the match and laying on a great spread of food (the onion Bhajis were rocket fuel). Also, thanks to Andy for chalking for the Twitten and to Denny for encouraging the Oak players when they needed it. Already looking forward to the Winter league.
Congratulations to the New Oak A Summer cup winners 2024
Closing date to enter a team is 28th August 2024.
